hobby
what does "hobby" mean to you?
is it something that u enjoy doing during your free time? is it something u feel passionate about? and no, being with your gf/bf can't be your hobby..... it's supposed to be something that you do, on your own, on your own time.....
is it still a hobby if u earn money from it? is it still a hobby when it's a must to do it? is it still a hobby if u feel frustrated doing it? is it still a hobby when u think it "could" be your hobby but u never had the time doing it?
well for me.. a hobby is something i do when i (actually) DO have free time AND also have the mood to do it... but as of recent... i don't feel i have the time, and if i do, i'll just use it by wasting it on the Internet, TV or sleep....
so would u call surfing the Internet, watching TV and sleeping a hobby?
BUT.....
the hobby i enjoy doing (and wishing i had more time to spend on it) is photography... i've always liked taking pics from a very young age.... as far as i can remember, it started in my primary school days.... the days where there was Childrens Day, Teachers Day, Prize Giving Day where i'll bring my dad's camera to school to take pictures... pictures of my friends, with teachers and trying to get friends to make stupid faces and poses.... with the pictures i took... i'd keep them nicely and organize them in an album... up till now i have about nearly 8 full albums.... (alot uh?)
i've always wanted a camera for my self.... but it wasn't a necessity in my family.. dad says that if i want to take pictures, i could use his camera... and not to say it's a canggih one, it's a normal automatic one.... so, fine, was using it so much that somehow it didn't work anymore.. by then, we were subscribing to Bonuslink and had enough of points to get another camera.... and not to say we got a "better" camera, it was an automatic flash BUT u had to turn the dial.. so it wasn't a 100% automatic camera... i think u know what i mean....
so with that i took loads of pics... pics in college, prom nights, random pics, lepaking with the dugongs, birthday surprise, christmas, concerts.... then the most horrible thing happened, I LOST THE CAMERA!!! what's worst... pics of the Mariah Carey Concert was in there!!!!
BUT.......
after nearly 2 years i found the camera... hahahah but in the mean time, LUCKILY i could use my grandad's camera.. and that's so much better than the one before....
then i went to Sydney for holiday, i was so sad that i didn't have a digital camera to take many many many pics!!!! all i had was the 35mm automatic camera where films come in 36 the most!!! sigh.... and then!! what a surprise!!! i got one when i was there!!! it was a gift!!! :)
there i started... taking pics.. of anything i saw... learning to use a digital camera (never used one before) and my interest of photography came back.... i told myself that i'll try to use it 100% of its function when i come back to Penang.... well i did.. i TRIED... but somehow i didn't have the time to go out to nice sceneries, places.... to fiddle with the functions...
now everytime i go out, i'll spot the place, the time.. the look of what i want to capture on the camera so that when i DO have the time, i'll go back there to take the pics.... (sad aint it?)
so it comes down to this..... is photography-but-have-no-time-for-it considered photography as a hobby?
*does all this make sense anyway??
ohhh btw..... hobby means...
"An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure..."
