Canele (Macaroons) @ Singapore

these are macaroons from Singapore. my cousin brought them over for me and it's my first trying this. how would i say this. it's like a mini pancake (dollars) yet it's not, it's not a cake nor it's not a cookie. inbetween there's cream filling of different flavours. it's lovely but abit tooooo sweet though.
here what i had was lemon flavour, chocolate of course, then i think there's strawberry and coffee with the last one as the orange flavour.
i'm not sure if there's any other shops selling macaroons but Canele is one of them. nice for those who have a sweet tooth! :D i love the box though! hehehhe

check out their site!

Unforgettable 10th Birthday for Kelly

it was my lil cousin's birthday, Kelly and she turned 10 yesterday... we had BBQ/Steamboat @ LeNids (my grandparents house in Green Lane). i was late for the steamboat as i was working and couldn't leave early.. sigh...
i saw the remains (cause i was at WORK!!!) of the lenterns they hung, it seems it looked lovely until they forgot to take pics and then it started to rain... so the lenterns were all wet, there were balloons everywhere
so i started to eat and managed to get what's left of the cooking gas in the stoves that the BBQ/Steamboat caterer gave to cook my food... sadly it didn't last.. so in the end, had to get Anna to char the meats in her own stove.. it was faster too!
... wonders of working... *rolls eyes*
then THE cake came out!!! it was a Cassata cake from Maxims! it's an ice-cream cake! and we had confetti, air horn, pop-pop, singing of Happy Birthday while holding hands and walking around in circles....

if you see it at another angle, the cake's bigger than her head! i swear!!!

then after all the cake eating, time for opening the presents!!! and after the oooohs.. and the aaaaahhhhs and the adults being jealous (yea she got the iPod Nano!!)... suddenly something distracted all of us.... we all had to kay poh to see what was happening outside!
everyone was curious to see what's happening outside, Anna didn't care cause she knew what was happening! LOL but because most of us haven't seen/experience it... we just HAD to go look!!

and there it was... the monsoon drain outside the house was filled with rushing rain water and it had risen to the brim and it was overflowing... at first we were hoping for it to not come in to the garden, but the rain couldn't stop! and the water kept rising.... and it came to the garden!! we had to quickly move our cars to higher ground (outside the gates) and all we could do was just wait for the rain to stop.. and hope the water won't come in the hse and no weird animals swimming in the dirty water....

front garden facing the monsoon drain

the front gate (with the dog house)

the back garden (you can't see the small drain anymore)

the kitchen gate
behind the house - open cooking area

the rain was raining non stop, the water came up 2 steps but luckily not into the hse, and it lasted for about an hour or more... everyone was taking pictures of the flood, everyone was excited in a way, kids were histerical! lol and Anna was...well, restless and worried cause she knows that there will be lots of cleaning later...
by the time it was about 11pm or so, the rain stopped and the water in the monsoon drain was residing... and water from the compound was going out... there was no more flood.. the flood came as fast as it went away... and Anna started to clean the porch... poor thing, not sure what time she finished...
but you know who enjoyed most from this experience?

KING! the dog! he was indoors most of the time! LOL

+1 year

and so adds another year to my age... am not sure if i'm happy that i'm older or not.. lol but somehow i thought this time i wouldn't care. it's my birthday and i can be as crazy as i want (like announcing the whole of FB that it's my birthday) and do what i fancy... :)
i had a visitor from outstation to visit me and of course being a Penangite, i did the customary tourist guide tour.. though we didn't have much time so the tour was kinda brief.. we did do the laksa, poh piah and durian ice-cream at Kek Seng, and passing by Komtar, Georgetown, Gurney Drive and of course Batu Ferringhi...so i believe that summons up everything
then there's dinner plans with fellow CHOICE members and Dugongs at Mizi Bistro @ New World Park... unfortunately lil Rosie Dugong was sick, and the others were busy working, so Cheryl the only one from the Dugong clan made it, really appreciate her coming! :D *hugs*

with CHOICE members
with Cheryl
now the story with the cake is that both the CHOICEes and DUGONGs got me cakes, AND... both were from Jenny's!!! what a coincidence! and BOTH were chocolate cakes!! hahaha but i think they're 2 different TYPES of chocolate cake, but then again, they both taste the same! hahahha.. so i got 2 cakes! thanks guys!! love both of them! they were delicious! yum!!
so we cut the CHOICEe cake instead, cause majority of them were there and we all thought it would be better to only cut one as everyone was full with food!! :D

group pics of the lovely chics!

then my friend wanted to check out SS eventhough i mentioned that it's a weekday and there won't be anyone there... anyway, we still went and these 2 girls came with us. luckily there was a live band playing and they were GOOD! they're called Sweet P (or was it Pea)

after some drinks at SS, my outstation friend and i headed to Hard Rock.. i just HAD to go have a look and i knew i loved it!! the pic above? yes, i want to stay in one of those rooms one day, where the pool is just at your doorstep!! u can jump in and out any time!

this was the DUGONG cake, i brought it over to LeNid the next day, where my mum joined me with some cousins :D again, this was a lovely cake as well! thanks DUGONGs!! wished you could have shared this cake with me! hope to see you soon!
so that was my 28th birthday (yes, i'm 28) and someone thought i was 23!! LOL (too bad Mr.T isn't interested in me, i thought he was nice)... yeah, anyway i had a wonderful time thanks to my outstation friend, the CHOICEes, Cheryl (and the Dugongs) and my family and cousins! thank you so much!! love you and lots of HUGS!!

Slippery Senoritas @ Autocity, Juru

thought i'd put this up first as it just happened.
Slippery Senoritas (or famously known as SS in Penang) has opened in Autocity, Juru!! when Autocity just opened, there were signboards saying that SS will be opening here but it has been delayed for few years. FINALLY, it's opened!!
it opened on the 9/9/09 (nice date uh)
at first there were gossips that the opening was only for staff and family, but ppl in the SS Facebook group said it's open to public, even the gym staff (next to SS Juru) said it's only for staff and YET my friend who's a regular in SS Penang said it's opened to public.. i was keen to go for the opening with the gym fellas but with all the gossip i didn't know whether to try my luck to go or not.. eventually, my friend (who has a friend as a bartender) said its opened to public... and SO i went... it felt going there by myself as i dun usually go to clubs alone.. but i just went...

from the entrance, this is what you see, the bar and the stage behind that... exactly the same layout as SS in Penang.. but i think this place is much bigger, but then again when i went there were not many ppl... there were seats at the bar!!! LOL everything was clean, neat... ppl were curious, looking around and all... towards 11.30pm surprisingly the crowd started to grow... and the band was.... ooookay, not that good yet not that bad...

this (pic above) is the left side of the bar from the entrance, what you see outside the window is actually Maybank, so if u run out of cash to buy drinks, the ATM is just next door.... (i don't think that's a good idea actually.. HAHAHAHHA)

i got a seat at the bar, waiting for my friend to come (which was 1 hr late!!!) and enjoyed the sights from the bar. pic above is the right side of the bar from the entrance, wide screen tvs showing Channel V and MTV, the DJ counsel... the stage would be on the left. the pic below is also the right side towards the entrance, another DJ counsel but patrons were sitting in it...

i got bored at one point so i started taking pics of the bar. the lighting and the NEW bottles caught my eye and the bar was not busy, so took this time to take some pics... lovely right? half of the bottles were not opened...yet. heheheh

this was my drink while i waited for my friend... i thought it would be just get a drink, looksie abit, dance abit and head home... mana tau, 5 other ppl came that nite and they opened a bottle! my favourite!! mixer was orange juice... nice... and as predicted, i had a hangover the next day! LOL

so... if you feel for a new place to party, why not head to this new SS over on the mainland and check it out. i really don't know bout the weekend crowd, why not you tell me?! :D
lots of free parking, Maybank is next to it, Pelita and McD (both 24hrs) is just across the road... and my hse is 3 minutes away... quite good eh? heheheh

Gastronomia @ Singapore

* old post, delayed being posted up

Gastronomia i heard is quite famous for their cupcakes in Singapore. my cousin got me some when she was there and because i was in the cupcake "phase" she thought i would like to compare this to Sugar Daddy's (from Dubai).
i thought i was nice but the icing was quite sweet... sweet till you get something like a "brain freeze" hahahah so i took each cupcake with care, bite by bite, taking my own sweet time to finish it...

i'm not sure what were the flavours she got for me, but i know there were some chocolate ones, and the yellow ones were lemon/citrus flavour.. the blue was was abit of a minty side.. but in conclusion, i think i would still prefer Sugar Daddy's :D but thanks Lynn for bringing me this for me to try!

my first bite that gave me the sweet "rush"

Victoria Station @ Bayan Baru

it's been a while since i step foot in Victoria Station. the last time i went, was few years ago at the Seberang Prai outlet. the steaks were dry and bland... don't know what happened. so this time when my cousin came back and suggested that she's craving for Victoria Station... i went abit blank... anyway, she insisted and we went to the one in Bayan Baru... and i don't know if they upgraded their quality, or it's a different branch or issit just because i haven't tried it for so long, i actually thought it was good again!

so the kids insisted in sitting in the train to have dinner.. it's actually fun, but if you don't like small places, better sit outside in open space. the interiors the same, never changed all these years...
so we ordered our food, fruit juices are fresh! even when we asked for it without sugar. i can't remember how was the service is like, if we had to wait long for our food but i remember they forgot my appetizer!! the salad prawns!! they only brought it our after my main dish! aiya...

my late appetizer

my cousin had the lobster! :D

this fish and chips portion was HUGE!!! they gave 2 whole fillets!

oh then for desert, we ordered a BOMB Alaska! it's been ages since i tried this!!! this cannot be ordered if it's a party of 2 or 4 people, it must be more because this dessert is HUGE!!! it's made from cake and fruits at the bottom and the white thing is egg white with sugar (to make it sweet) and to make the flame, it's from wine or rum... correct me if i'm wrong. the main exciting thing is to get the egg white burnt a nice golden colour so that it's crisp. can't eat too much though, can feel jelak! lol
